Atelier d'Offard

Hand block-printed wallpaper and carton-pierre relief work from Tours, France — a nearly-extinct 18th-century craft revived in 1999, now specified by Chanel, Chaumet, and Orient Express.

The Atelier

Paper, reworked into architecture

Every pattern is hand block-printed, color after color, using carved wooden blocks and custom-made paints — the same process 18th-century French manufactories used, kept alive by one atelier when it had all but disappeared.

Carton-pierre — a moldable, stone-hard relief material made from the atelier's own paper offcuts — extends the same hand craft into three dimensions: cornices, panels, and gilded reliefs that read as carved stone.

1999
Founded in Tours, France

François-Xavier Richard revived the nearly-extinct craft of hand block-printed wallpaper as a working atelier.
